Adult Potty Training Marketing Campaign
CLIENT
City of Redding, Department of Public Works, Wastewater Utility Division
OBJECTIVE
The Adult Potty Training campaign was aimed to educate the community about the dangers of flushing wipes and other foreign objects down the toilet. This public awareness initiative focused on preventing plumbing issues and promoting proper waste disposal practices.
PROCESS
As the lead designer, I produced all the graphics and created a 30-second animated video for social media platforms.
I began by researching design aesthetics, ultimately deciding on a 1970s Public Service Announcement (PSA) and print material style. This choice provided a nostalgic yet impactful visual language that resonated with a broad audience.
Design: Using Adobe Illustrator, I designed all the vector graphics needed for the campaign. These included characters, icons, and other elements embodying the chosen aesthetic.
Animation: I then moved to Adobe After Effects to create the animated video. The animation aimed to be informative and engaging, making the message clear and memorable.
Publication: The final video was published on Facebook and Instagram, targeting community members through social media outreach.
OUTCOME
The campaign successfully reached 1,806 people and garnered 2,247 impressions on social media.
One challenge was ensuring that the 1970s aesthetic felt authentic while still being relevant and appealing to a modern audience. This required a careful balance in the design and animation process.
KEY LEARNINGS
This project enhanced my ability to combine research-driven design with modern digital tools. It also reinforced the importance of choosing a compelling visual style to effectively communicate a public service message.
